On Saturday, March 31, Lewiston’s own Androscoggin Fallen Angels roller derby team, The Inferno, takes to the track celebrating the third anniversary of the league’s formation. the bout will be AFA against Central Maine Derby’s Northwoods Knockouts in a Slam-i-versary doubleheader at the Lewiston Armory. Doors open at 5 pm and the first whistle is at 5:30 pm.
The second event on the bill is a men’s bout. Portland’s Casco Bay Roller Derby is welcoming the Mass Maelstrom, from Massachusetts. This is an unusual opportunity to watch men’s roller derby. The whistle blows for this bout at 7:30 pm.
Androscoggin Fallen Angels Roller Derby League (AFA) is a member-owned and run amateur athletic organization founded in 2015. Based in Lewiston, AFA is part of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA).
Roller derby is a fast-paced, full-contact sport where two teams of five – four blockers and one jammer – compete to score the most points. The jammer scores points by breaking through and lapping the opposing team’s blockers, while blockers try to prevent the opposing team’s jammer from skating past. Watching roller derby is a fun, family-friendly activity.
Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for kids ages 6-17 and free for kids under 5. $5 for senior citizens and there is a family pack for $20 for up to two adults and an unlimited number of children.
