Learn to build and program LEGO robots so you can work with youth in your community. Take this opportunity to get the skills needed to teach or mentor a program near you. Maine Robotics is offering five workshops around the state in September. Workshops run from 8 am to 2:30 pm in Bangor, Augusta, Auburn, Falmouth and Bath. Visit mainerobotics.org or call 866-4340 to get more information about these workshops. Open to adults and high school mentors.
Maine Robotics has partnered with local groups around the state to offer robot workshops for adults, teachers, coaches, and high school mentors. The workshop is designed to get participants familiar with building and programming using the LEGO® MindStorms robot kit.
These kits have been used for years in Maine schools and after school programs and often adults feel overwhelmed by the new technology. But no need, this one day workshop will get even the most stubborn adult through the process and able to see the “ah, I get it” moments.
There are 5 workshops scheduled around Maine this September, from 8:00 am to 2:30 pm:
Falmouth: UMaine Regional Education Center – 9/14
Bangor: Maine Discovery Museum – 9/19
Auburn: Auburn Land Lab – 9/25
Augusta: Buker Community Center – 9/26
Bath: Bath YMCA, Teen Center – 9/29
Registrations are on a first come-first served basis and each workshop can hold up to 16 participants. Adult registration is $35 for the 6-1/2 hour program and high school mentors (must be accompanied by an adult) are $20. The workshops cover the basics of LEGO nomenclature (what the pieces are called); building successful robots; using the MindStorms programming language to run the robots; integrating activities into a youth group or class; and details about the fall FIRST® LEGO® League Competition.
Participants can receive 6 hours of Continuing Education Units (0.6 credits) for participating in this workshop.
