Macaroni Movies: Dolphin Tale 2

By Kayt DeMerchant, Publisher September 18, 2014
In the original Dolphin Tale film, viewers were introduced to the loving staff at Clearwater Marine Rescue and to Winter, a rescued dolphin that uses a prosthetic tail to swim. In Dolphin Tale 2, Winter’s story continues. After the death of her dolphin companion, Winter becomes sad and even unintentionally violent. The Clearwater Marine team (Dr. Clay, his teen daughter Hazel and teen staff member, Sawyer, all from the original film) must race against time to find Winter a suitable replacement companion as Florida law requires captive dolphins to live with a companion and not in solitude.

Dolphin Tale 2 is a sweet film that kids and grown-ups will enjoy. The film may even inspire you to want to visit Winter (and her new dolphin friend Hope) in Clearwater. The Dolphin Tale franchise is based on a true story. (The real-life footage at the end of the film is worth staying through the credits for.)

Parents should note: There are a few scenes that may prove unsettling to young viewers. An elderly dolphin dies, marine animals are occasionally seen in peril and there is one scene where Winter hurts one of the teens (presumably unintentionally).
