Blu and Jewel, the rare blue macaws from Rio, are back in Rio 2. They have started a family and the couple and their three children live in a bird sanctuary in Rio de Janeiro. During a trip to the Amazon, Linda (Blu’s owner) and her now husband Tulio believe they spot more blue macaws living in a Brazil nut forest. Jewel decides her family should visit the Amazon and drags a reluctant Blu and the kids along. Sure enough, there is an entire flock of Blue Macaws which includes Jewel’s father, aunt and an ex-boyfriend. When trouble starts in the Amazon, in the form of a nasty group of loggers cutting down Brazil nut trees, the flock must fight to save their habitat (and discover what families—and flocks—are truly about).
Kids and adults will enjoy this very family-friendly film. (Parents of very young children should note that there are several scenes of Amazon predators swallowing their prey.) Rio 2 features plenty of musical numbers so if you have Frozen fans at home, they will likely enjoy Rio 2 (and you may enjoy listening to something other than Let It Go for the millionth time).
