Living in Maine, our family is often found enjoying the abundance of outdoor activities that Maine has to offer: hiking, swimming, boating, camping, fishing, snowshoeing, tubing, skiing and travelling. Of course, when our family is out and about, so are our cell phones, cameras, wallets and other valuables. I have often left the camera behind or stashed our valuables in a locked trunk when I didn’t think it was safe to bring them with us because they might get wet. (Ever tipped a canoe over with your valuables inside? It is a hard lesson to learn!)
I was familiar with Otterbox protective cases for cell phones and tablets (our family has several and the protection cannot be beat). I was recently introduced to their Dryboxes as well. Dryboxes are waterproof, crushproof and airtight protection for cell phones, small cameras, flashlights, matches, wallets, sunglasses and more.
I recently tested out several OtterBox Dryboxes (shown here). I was really impressed. (And thrilled that I no longer have to leave my camera behind for fear of water damage.) These Dryboxes do exactly as they say. They protect the goodies inside the box from water and moisture. I put them to the test first by placing some paper inside and letting them sit in the bathtub overnight. The paper was perfectly dry the next morning. OtterBox has tested the Dryboxes up to 100 feet of water. The Dryboxes float (a bonus if you swim, surf, boat or beach). They also come with handy clips and tethers so you can attach them to yourself or an object easily.
The OtterBox Drybox 9000 (back left in photo) is the perfect size for camping, traveling or a day trip. It fits quite a bit of stuff. I put my iPhone, sunglasses, wallet and a small camera inside with room left over. I see the Drybox 9000 coming with us canoeing, fishing, to the beach and even next summer to the local waterpark.
The Pursuits/20 (back right in photo) case fits an iPhone perfectly with a bit of extra room for your keys or some cash and a few cards. The smaller size is great when you need something compact. My oldest son is using this now. As an avid sports kid, this is a great case for him. He can bring his iPhone and a bit of cash with him when he goes fishing, skateboarding, bike riding, snowshoeing and more. Not only are the Dryboxes waterproof, they are crushproof. When you feel the quality of the construction, you can easily see how tough these cases are. The Pursuits series of Dryboxes come with a rubberized interior for extra protection. That’s a big bonus for a kid who skateboards!
The Drybox 1000 (front in photo) is one of the smallest Dryboxes OtterBox has. It is super compact for when you need the bare minimum. This would fit easily into your jeans pocket.
OtterBox has a Drybox size for every occasion and need. The Dryboxes are very reasonably priced and worth every penny for the protection they provide. I plan to bring one along on our next tubing trip. The last time we went, I left my camera and phone behind as I knew we were going to get snowy and wet (and a little fearful of smashing into things). This time, I will be snapping pictures of the fun. Thanks, OtterBox!
