At the beginning of summer, I packed away a few cooler weather clothes that I thought might still fit my kids come back-to-school. I have one tote that holds these very few items (they grow so fast) each season. In that tote are also 12 outfits from when my children were infants. I have never been a pack-rat; there’s little chance you will ever find me on the Hoarders show. However, when it comes to those outfits, I plan to hang onto them for life.
Each season as I take down the tote (and often have to donate half or more of the things I thought the kids would still fit into), I take some time to look at those tiny little infant outfits. Nostalgia nearly knocks me over when I run my fingers over the soft fabrics and marvel at the smallest of buttons. My daughter likes to look at the outfits with me and has asked if she can have them when she has children of her own. (I would consider parting with them only to see my own grandchildren in them.)
I have seen people display infant outfits in shadow boxes. I have seen quilts made out of the fabric from these special pieces of clothing.
