They are back! We all know that sound, that high pitch buzzing... Bzzz...Bzzz. Bzzz… relentless zooming around our ears attacking like a tiny droid. Leaving us with that dreadful clump of mosquito bites around our ankle that no scratching or making little “x’s with our fingernail can satiate. But worse, the fear of what mosquito viruses those buggers carry. West Nile, EEE and now Zika. According to WMUR 9 News the first case of Zika virus was confirmed in New Hampshire in March, 2016.

Don’t let the fear and annoyance of mosquitoes ruin your summer - Take action!

Prevention--What You Can Do

Remove all standing water:
  • Mosquitoes lay their eggs in still standing water.
  • Empty containers - Toys, buckets, planters - common culprits to still water.
  • Bird baths - if using, change the water daily or add a pumping feature.
  • Check gutters for debris that may block the flow of water.
  • Turn over canoes and wagons to prevent the collection of water.
  • Cover trashcans with lids or drill holes in the bottom so the water can flow out.
Keep greenery trimmed and yard cleaned up:
  • Keep the grass cut low - Mosquitoes love tall, wet grass.
  • Pick up wet decaying leaves
  • Fill in any puddles that accumulate under air conditioning units or leaking faucets.
Wear protective clothing:
  • Long pants, long sleeve shirts, socks and hats
  • Especially in the evening, night and dawn hours.
  • When venturing into the woods or wetland areas.
Use bug spray and repellants
