Remove all standing water:
- Mosquitoes lay their eggs in still standing water.
- Empty containers - Toys, buckets, planters - common culprits to still water.
- Bird baths - if using, change the water daily or add a pumping feature.
- Check gutters for debris that may block the flow of water.
- Turn over canoes and wagons to prevent the collection of water.
- Cover trashcans with lids or drill holes in the bottom so the water can flow out.
Keep greenery trimmed and yard cleaned up:
- Keep the grass cut low - Mosquitoes love tall, wet grass.
- Pick up wet decaying leaves
- Fill in any puddles that accumulate under air conditioning units or leaking faucets.
Wear protective clothing:
- Long pants, long sleeve shirts, socks and hats
- Especially in the evening, night and dawn hours.
- When venturing into the woods or wetland areas.
